Falcon Boats Becomes the First Manufacturer to Make The Leash Standard Equipment
Beginning July 1, 2026, with the 2027 model year, new Falcon boats will ship from the factory with Precision Sonar’s patented outboard motor safety system, installed before it ever hits the water.
AT A GLANCE
- Falcon Boats is the first boat manufacturer to make Precision Sonar’s The Leash standard, factory-installed equipment.
- The change takes effect as soon as possible with the 2027 model year, across Falcon models.
- The Leash is a patented safety system designed to reduce the risk of an outboard motor flipping into the cockpit after an underwater strike.
[BENTON], Ky. — June 1, 2026 — Precision Sonar and Falcon Boats today announced a manufacturing partnership that makes Falcon the first boat builder to include The Leash — Precision Sonar’s patented outboard motor safety system — as standard, factory-installed equipment on every future boat it produces. The change takes effect with Falcon’s 2027 model year and applies to all models produced after July 1, 2026.
Until now, The Leash has been sold and installed as an aftermarket upgrade. Under this agreement, it becomes a built-in feature of the boat itself, meaning 2027 Falcon Boats will leave the Newberry, South Carolina, factory already protected.
“At Falcon, we build boats for people who take their time on the water seriously — and that means taking their safety just as seriously. Making The Leash standard on 2027 boats means our customers are protected the moment they take delivery. They don’t have to think about it, because we already did. We’re proud to be the first to make safety come standard.”
— Stephen Waller, Co-Owner, Falcon Boats
Why it matters
The Leash is a patented marine safety device designed and engineered to reduce the risk of an outboard motor flipping into the cockpit in the event of an underwater strike with a submerged object. It installs in minutes, is compatible with all major outboard manufacturers, and is built to be five times stronger than steel. Precision Sonar describes it simply: The Leash is to an outboard motor what a seat belt is to a car.
By making it standard equipment, Falcon ensures the device is on the boat the moment a customer takes delivery — closing the “I’ll get to it later” gap that comes with any aftermarket accessory.
“We sell The Leash to keep people safe, and the best way to do that is to get it on as many boats as possible. Falcon stepping up as the first manufacturer to make it standard equipment is a real milestone, and our hope is that it’s the first of many. When a company of Falcon’s caliber decides safety should come standard, it raises the bar for the whole industry.”

A pro who runs both
The partnership is anchored by a real-world connection: Wes Logan, a Bassmaster Elite Series professional, competes from a Falcon boat and runs The Leash. He is sponsored by both companies. In 2024, Logan was involved in a high-speed collision with a submerged object during a Bassmaster Elite event on Lake Champlain, and has publicly credited The Leash with keeping his outboard out of the cockpit during the impact.
“The Leash is the first thing that goes on my boat every year — I don’t leave home without it. I run a Falcon and I run The Leash, so seeing the two come together just makes sense to me. If you fish, this is the kind of thing you want on your boat long before you ever need it.”
— Wes Logan, Bassmaster Elite Series Pro
